    • Shell
    • Kernel
    • Application


Kernel -

  • The kernel is base of UNIX operating system because entire system is managed through the kernel.
  • All the major actions of Unix operating system are handled by kernel.
  • It handles entire system that’s why it’s heart and base of the operating system.

Shell -

  • The shell is an interface among kernel and user.
  • Basically Shell is command line in UNIX operating system which is used to various Linux commands to perform various actions.
  • It is graphical user interface for terminal in UNIX.

Applications -

  • They are responsible to perform tasks and manage the operating system via user interface.
